Community Power & Civic Engagement

In a time of growing political and social challenges—from rising Islamophobia to policy decisions that impact our schools, safety, and civil rights—it is critical that the Muslim community understands and utilizes its community power. Civic engagement is not optional—it is a religious and moral duty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
taught us to be present, speak truth to power, and defend the oppressed. Civic participation is one way we live out this prophetic legacy in our American context.

Through consistent and informed involvement in local, state, and national affairs, we can shape a future that reflects our values. This includes voting, attending school board and city council meetings, participating in town halls, joining coalitions, and even supporting candidates who align with our principles. Our presence matters. Our voices matter even more when they are strategic, united, and grounded in our faith.

But real power is built not just by reacting to issues—it comes from proactively creating and leading initiatives that reflect our values. That means starting projects rooted in justice and collective wellbeing: community gardens that promote food security, housing initiatives that support vulnerable families, empowerment programs for young leaders, and collaborative campaigns with other communities of color to stand for equality, justice, and freedom. These are not just acts of service—they are acts of power.

Our MAS PACE (Public Affairs and Civic Engagement) team is working tirelessly to lay this foundation. Whether it’s training high school and college students in political literacy, creating toolkits for grassroots mobilization, or organizing voter registration drives across Houston, MAS PACE is actively preparing our community to rise to the challenge. We are also exploring new projects that harness the collective strength of our masajid, Islamic centers, youth groups, and interfaith partners to build long-term influence and impact.

The time to act is now. Our community has the numbers, the passion, and the capacity. When we organize around shared goals and uplift each other with sincerity and discipline, we become a force that not only protects our rights—but builds a society grounded in dignity, equity, and justice for all.
